With product saturation in the beauty industry at its peak, it is incredibly difficult for brands to remain innovative enough to maintain consumer interest these days.
There is one brand, however, who recently slayed the game of product innovation.
Today I’m talking about the new Book of Shadows from Coloured Raine.
First off, how gorgeous is that cover!
Coloured Raine’s Book of Shadows launched in January 2020 and retails for $42.
The Book of Shadows is a 3 layer shadow organizer that holds 72 traditional 26mm magnetic pan eyeshadows.
If your single shadows are not magnetic, you can grab some magnetic stickers from Amazon to solve that problem.
There are a few things I absolutely love about this product…
The Book of Shadows Is Innovative
Product innovation is something that really sticks out to me, not just in the beauty industry, but when I think of consumer marketing as a whole.
It’s very difficult for brands to launch original products with the sheer volume of makeup related items coming out week after week.
The color stories, palette themes, tools, supplies, brush sets, collections, collaborations. It feels like it’s all been done already so when Coloured Raine dropped this product, I was literally speechless.
As a collector, makeup artist, and someone who has an immense passion for this industry, it’s launches like these that really get me excited.
I’ excited to find a product that is different and offers some sort of benefit to my daily life and professional activities.
Exquisite Design
Okay, this design takes the cake.
I don’t think there are enough words to accurately describe how incredible this design is.
This is not a cheap or flimsy book in any way. It is quite heavy and weighs about 2 pounds empty. I know it sounds really heavy, but it’s quality guys.
The Book of Shadows is STURDY! If you are a traveling makeup artist, this book is so so perfect because it’s not going to break down or wear out on you.
It holds 72 shadows, which is a very good amount, but it isn’t too large to manage.
Once all of this madness is over and I’m back in the field, I will most definitely be using this product as my sole shadow palette.
I’ll need to purchase a second though, because I refuse to give up the one at my vanity! LOL
You feel the quality each time you open the book or turn a page. The magnets are strong so there’s no worry of shadows falling out at all.
Coloured Raine also thought of ease when loading and unloading the book and included little “tabs” on the side of each shadow dip so you can easily remove and replace shadows without damaging the product or the pans.
Every single detail is so meticulously well thought out and planned in this product. I just can’t. I’m so in love with it.
Going back to professionals, if you are a makeup artist, I really think this is a must-have in your kit.
Most makeup artists use combination palettes anyways. And by combination I mean shadows that we either depot or purchase as singles and build a palette so we have everything we want in a few easy to manage palettes.
This product does just that for you, but adds an incredible aesthetic to your table that looks professional and is a great conversation piece.
Easy Organization
Along with the design is the organization piece of this product.
Each layer holds 24 shadows and each pan is numbered. Coloured Raine also includes clear plastic sheets that are also numbered and go over the the pans to keep them sanitary.
These sheets are loose so it is optional on whether you want to use them or not. I think they are really handy to keep the shadows from being exposed, but you could also label the sheets with shade names so you don’t have to remove the shade each time.
If you’d like to see how I sorted and organized my singles, you can watch my video on Instagram here.
Overall, I think this product is a home run. I love the design, the organization, I’m more than happy with the quality, and I think it is just stunning.
If you are a makeup artist, makeup enthusiast, collector, or even just want to keep your makeup simple and organized, this product is a definite buy.
I’m extremely happy with mine. Let me know what you guys think in the comments below!
