I’m seriously so freakin excited for summer. I love summer with all of its glorious heat. I love being hot and I love the sun. It just makes me happy.
Public Service Announcement: Wear sunscreen please!
I used to struggle hardcore with my makeup in the summer because of my oily skin. I could never get foundation to withstand the Florida humidity. Between the sweating and the moisture in the air, my face would look like a greasy, patchy mess.
Now that I’ve finally found some foundation products that really work, I can start focusing on other elements in my makeup routine which is a giant relief.
I love a warm, glowy, bronzed look in the summer. There’s just something about being tanned and radiant that makes me feel so beautiful so if you love summer as much as I do, I think you’ll appreciate these tips.
Here are a few of my Summer Makeup Must-Haves for Summer 2019:
Summer Makeup Tip #1: Get Your Bronze From A Bottle
This is actually a very important tip. As much as I love bronzed skin, I don’t love it enough to sacrifice my health and laying out in the sun day after day is so unhealthy.
I achieve my copper-toned base from a bottle and I am not ashamed to admit it. My skin tone is fair-light with neutral undertones and I find that self-tanner works great for me. I understand the stigma behind self-tanners, but if you use them the right way and prep your skin, the outcome is really beautiful.
One self-tanner that I love is the St Tropez Self Tan Bronzing Mousse. I really enjoy this product because it develops quickly so I don’t have to wait overnight for the color to process. I can apply it the same day I am wanting sun-kissed skin which saves a ton of time.
Summer Makeup Tip #2: Use Highlighting Drops To Add An All Over Glow
I’ve really been a fan of liquid highlighters just recently and found they really add a beautiful natural glow to your skin. Liquid highlighters are surprisingly versatile and are not just for your cheekbones.
Some of my favorite liquid highlighters are the Custom Enhancer Drops from Cover FX. I love these drops because they come in an array of colors from natural shades that enhance your skin-tone to fun holographic glow drops.
The Custom Enhancer Drops are also never greasy and don’t clog my pores.
I purchased a vault set from CoverFX.com because it gave me several shade options to play with. This works great for me because I can continue using this trick even as my self-tanner begins to fade or when I’m not wearing any at all.
If you are a makeup artist, it’s really beneficially to have products like this in varying colors to compliment any skin tone.
I am not sure if the vault is still available, but if not, start with the shade that best compliments your skin tone. You can always collect more later!
My favorite way to apply them is to add a few drops of the Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops to my moisturizer or body lotion as I’m getting ready. Mix the two really well and apply to the face area for a “glow from within” appearance.
Apply this concoction all over the body for a beautifully bronzed glow. Let it soak into the skin until dry to the touch before dressing to prevent transfer.
You can also apply the drops like a standard highlighter to accentuate the high points of your face. Use a finger or beauty sponge to apply along the cheekbones and cupid’s bow.
If you are living for the extra glow, you can also apply the drops right above the arches of your brows and down your nose.
The drops set really well, so you don’t need to apply a powder over top. Although you definitely could top it off with a powder highlighter to add intensity.
Summer Makeup Tip #3: Use Neutral Eyeshadows For A More Naturally Radiant Look.
My favorite summertime look to rock while out and about is a simple warm neutral eye and natural lashes.
This look is easily achieved with a good neutral palette and a killer mascara.
A few of my favorite summer palettes are the Too Faced Sweet Peach palette and the Anastasia Beverly Hills Soft Glam palette.
Both palettes have great neutral color stories, but also include subtle pops of color that really make the palettes pop.
These two palettes are versatile and include all the shades you need to create full eye looks, but also include a nice mix of deeper shades to take your eye makeup from day to night effortlessly.
For lashes, I prefer to go natural. Mainly because if I know I will be outside for extended periods of time, I want to be as comfortable as possible and false lashes are just too much.
To achieve this natural lash, you need a good volumizing and lengthening mascara. Don’t sell yourself short here. You really need a mascara that will do both.
Who says we can’t be dramatic without falsies?
I prefer to use Too Faced Better Than Sex or Loreal Lash Paradise. Both can be built up to add even more volume, but work so so well. These are my go-to mascaras for everyday use.
These mascaras are also available in a waterproof formula.
Summer Makeup Tip #4: Nude Lip Glosses
I know the lip gloss trend is just now coming back in style, but my love for glosses never left. This is especially true in the summer months.
There is something about a glossy lip with a hint of shimmer that I find to be just beautiful. The right gloss adds a supple appearance to the lips that is very flattering.
The other great thing about glosses is they are so easy. Lipgloss can be applied without a mirror and you don’t have to worry about patchiness or uneven fading while you’re out.
Here are 2 formulas I’ve tried recently and am really liking so far:
Bottom: Colourpop Ultra Glossy Lip in the shade “I See You”
Top: Profusion Metal Mat Lip Creme in the shade “Nude”
Summer Makeup Tip #5: Dewy Setting Spray
Dewy settings sprays are my new LOVE! These can be tricky if you have oily skin, but I finally found one that works and it works well.
The Catrice Prime and Fine Dewy Glow Fixing Spray.
This spray is actually incredible and will fix any foundation that appears too dry or cakey. It adds the perfect amount of glow to your skin without looking shiny or oily and doesn’t leave a glittery look all over your face.
You definitely want to shake this before applying otherwise, all of the “dew” will stay settled at the bottom.
Apply this once you finish your base makeup and prepare to be amazed. I’m telling you, I’ve sprayed this over foundations I thought were a lost cause and it has somehow managed to bring my skin back to life.
Bottom line is..you need this spray.
