I feel like glitter cosmetics are products that people either love or hate. I personally love them and I will find any way possible to appropriately incorporate it into my looks.
Glitter is now such a huge trend in beauty, it’s unbelievable. I used to think of cosmetic glitter in the tiny bottles that you had to tap out onto a surface and apply with a heavy duty cosmetic glue.
The remnants of this were tiny flakes of glitter particles all over your house, in your hair, embedded into you skin.
Okay, it isn’t that serious. But anyone who has played with glitter knows that this stuff sticks to anything and everything, leaving you to clean up glitter flakes for months and months afterwards.
I’m not saying I mind that, because I don’t at all. I would douse myself in glitter daily if I could.
For those who are not as in love with glitter as I am, here are 5 ways to use glitter makeup to amp up your everyday makeup routine to add a hint of sparkle and shine.
Let’s start out with the obvious. Glitter eyeshadow is perhaps the most common way of using glitter in makeup. So many brands took to including foiled and glitter shades in palettes that it has become the norm.
I recommend placing glitter shades on the portion of your lid from inner corner to about the 3/4 mark. Avoid placing glitter shadows in the outer portion of your lid as that is where you want to add dimension with a deeper shade.
For a subtle pop of shine, blend a medium/deep matte shadow all over the lid and into the crease and apply a glitter shadow just to the middle of the lid.
This will give you a hint of sparkle and draw attention to the lid while still remaining subtle.
Face highlighting has completely taken over the beauty industry. Everyone these days is craving a good beaming highlight.
Finding a good face highlighter can be tricky, especially if you are like me and have textured skin.
Glittered highlighters are even more difficult. I want a smooth highlight that glides over my skin and doesn’t sink into the texture, but still gives off a glow that looks like a UFO is landing on my face.
Highlighters can be such a fun way to experiment with makeup and their versatility makes them a perfect tool to incorporate a little more shimmer to your look.
Glitter liner is a fun and easy way to incorporate glitter into your every day makeup look if you’re looking for a little more drama.
I use this Too Faced Glitter Pop Eyeliner to add a touch of color and sparkle to my average matte black wing. Some glitter liners are pure glitter in a liquid base to make application easy, but remain sheer.
This liner actually has color payoff along with the glitter which makes it a great addition to your eye look. I use the black shade, Hey Mr. Dj, most of the time. It’s a nice black liner with gold flakes of glitter and gives off just a subtle bling.
Another great way to use a glitter eyeliner is on the actual lid as a shadow. Use the applicator to apply the glitter wherever you want it and let it try.
No mess and easy application.
Holy cow! Lips toppers have really blown up lately. You can find them in the lip section of makeup displays. They look like glosses, but pack a really big shine.
I really enjoy the My Little Pony lip topper collection from PUR Cosmetics. This collection has been discontinued, but PUR offers a similar 4 piece lip topper set on their website.
I like the PUR Cosmetics lip toppers because they aren’t overly sticky and don’t have a gritty feeling from the glitter. They have a smooth application and are comfortable to wear.
You may be wondering what in the heck liquid glitter is. Take a look at the Stila Cosmetics Glitter & Glow Liquid Eyeshadows.
The formula of the Stila Magnificent Metals are creamy and opaque. They give such a glittery, colorful appearance that it just blows me away every time I apply them. I seriously feel like I need every freakin’ shade.
Liquid glitter shadows are great for anyone in a rush or just want an easy, no fuss makeup application.
One swipe and you’re set.
